Dude! Your Dell got a virus!
Was it DriveCleaner? Was it MacAfee? Was it fate?
We may never know, but I do know that some tricky business lies ahead. I am on the brink of losing much of my technological luxuries and hobbies such as itunes library complete with extensive song ratings, picasa with plenty of starred photos, thunderbird with a system of folders and message routing rules. Thr list goes on to include unpublished writing, techncial analysis images, budget spreadsheets, and more. This is a bit of a bummer becuase of all the time that went into customizing the system to work efficiently with me.
It may still be possible to restore the drive somehow, but I’m guessing I’ll be without home or in-transit computing for at least a week.
I’m wondering if there’s a device that will take a laptop hard drive and package it into a nice USB interface. What I’m imagining is some insane device where I take the infected drive out of my laptop, stick it into a box, install a bigger better drive into my laptop, and then connect the box to my laptop via USB so that I can move all my applications over to the new drive. The existence of such a device would really make my day!
